HEALTH Closes Three Beaches to Swimming
The Department of Health (HEALTH) recommends the closure of Easton's Beach in Newport, Peabody's Beach in Middletown, and Scarborough State Beach in Narragansett to swimming due to high bacteria counts. Officials will continue to monitor the water quality and recommend re-opening when the areas are safe for swimming. Water quality analysis is conducted by the HEALTH laboratory or a state certified laboratory.

Raimondo Nominates Six to the Building Codes Standards Commission
Governor Gina M. Raimondo today announced her intent to nominate Kris Bradner, Catherine Fox, M. David Odeh, John Sinnott, Joseph Warner and Christine West to the Building Codes Standards Commission. Raimondo will submit their names to the Rhode Island State Senate for confirmation. "The Building Codes Commission provides Rhode Island with the safest constructed buildings possible," said Raimondo.
ORA Releases its State 5% Hotel Tax Report for March 2015
The Office of Revenue Analysis released its report on the state 5% hotel tax. The report looks at the collection and disbursement of the state's 5% hotel tax which is levied on the rental of lodging for less than 30 consecutive days at the state's hotels, motels and bed and breakfasts.

Langevin, Butterfield and Quigley Amendment Increases Accessibility in Public Transit
The U.S. House adopted by voice vote today an amendment to the FY16 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development and Related Agencies Appropriations bill that was introduced by Congressmen Jim Langevin (D-RI), G. K. Butterfield (D-NC) and Mike Quigley (D-IL). The amendment will increase funding for the Federal Transit Administration’s Technical Assistance and Training program by $2 million, restoring it back to its 2014 level

Officials and Veterans Break Ground on New Rhode Island Veterans Home
Governor Gina M. Raimondo, U.S. Representatives James Langevin and David N. Cicilline, members of the Rhode Island General Assembly and veterans broke ground today on a new Rhode Island Veterans Home. Rhode Island voters approved a $94 million bond in 2012 for a new 208-bed home to serve the state's veterans. The new Veterans Home will be built on the 110-acre site of the current Rhode Island Veterans Home in Bristol.
