Langevin, Whitehouse Highlight Bill to Invest $170 Million in Fixing RI Bridges, Creating Jobs
Congressman Jim Langevin and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse today joined with state, town, and labor officials by the Factory Bridge in West Warwick to call on Congress to pass the Strengthen and Fortify Existing (SAFE) Bridges Act. The SAFE Bridges Act was introduced in the Senate by Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Whitehouse, and others last month and will be introduced in the House this week by Langevin. The bill would deliver up to $170 million to repair Rhode Island’s deficient and crumbling bridges and create construction jobs
Miller bill would use Medicaid funds for housing as a means to improve health
Modeled after an innovative bill introduced this year in Hawaii, legislation sponsored by Senate Health and Human Services Committee Chairman Joshua Miller would launch a pilot program to test the use of Medicaid funds to treat chronic homelessness.
Two Indicted in Sweeping Mortgage Fraud Investigations
A 14-count federal indictment filed in U.S. District Court in Providence charges two individuals, Hasan Hussain, 55, of Princeton, N.J., and Ricardo Abreu, 50, of Cranston, R.I., with allegedly participating in a conspiracy to defraud financial institutions, investors and financially distressed homeowners of at least 14 properties in Providence, Pawtucket and Cranston of fees, rental income, mortgage payment funds, property ownership and/or proceeds from the sale of their properties
