Senate committee continues hearings on homelessness

STATE HOUSE – January 17, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — The Senate Committee on Housing & Municipal Government will hold the second in a series of hearings on the homelessness crisis in Rhode Island on Thursday, January 20, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Senate lounge.

Sen. John J. Tassoni Jr. (D-Dist. 22, Smithfield, North Smithfield) is committee chairman. The hearings follow a visit by Senator Tassoni on January 5 to Harrington Hall, an emergency overnight men’s shelter in Cranston, and the Fran Conway House of Hope, an 11-unit permanent supportive housing program in Warwick.

Expected to testify at the January 20 hearing are: Anthony Maione, President and CEO of United Way, Rhode Island; Michelle Brophy, director of the New England Program, Corporation for Supportive Housing; Anne Nolan, President of Crossroads, Rhode Island; Eileen Hayes, President and CEO of Amos House, and Sheryl Marshall, program director of the Mental Health Association of Rhode Island.

The hearing will be televised by Capitol TV, which is presented on Channel 15 for Cox and Full Channel subscribers and on Channel 34 for Verizon customers.
