Warwick, R.I. – Congressman Jim Langevin, in conjunction with Rhode Island Housing, will host a Foreclosure Counseling Workshop at the Community College of Rhode Island Liston Campus on Saturday, May 3. This free, public workshop is an opportunity for homeowners who are having trouble paying their mortgage to meet with trained counselors from the Rhode Island Housing HelpCenter.
“This workshop is a chance for homeowners to speak directly with counselors about how to possibly avoid foreclosure,” said Langevin. “While we won’t necessarily be able to fix problems on the spot, housing counselors will be able to assess individual situations and offer advice that could put a homeowner on the right track.”
Homeowners having financial difficulty or at risk of foreclosure are welcome to attend this free event. Counselors will provide advice and education to help homeowners assess their individual situation. Attendees are also encouraged to bring all relevant mortgage and financial paperwork to facilitate a more thorough and efficient evaluation process. To ensure counselors are available, people are encouraged to call Langevin’s Rhode Island office at 401 732-9400 to register or the Rhode Island Housing HelpCenter at 401 457-1130.
“An important HelpCenter goal is to encourage people to seek help at the first sign that they might be in trouble. The sooner people come to us, the more options they will have,” said Rhode Island Housing Executive Director Richard Godfrey. “This workshop provides the opportunity for HelpCenter counselors to reach out to more Rhode Islanders who are experiencing financial difficulty and need a safe place to turn to for home help.”
