Whitehouse Statement on $9.68 Million in Funding to Protect Rhode Islanders from Foreclosure

Rhode Island received $9.68 million from the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Hardest Hit Fund program to help protect homeowners from foreclosure and assist communities still recovering from the housing crisis. U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, who voted in favor of the legislation that authorized this funding and helpedconvince the Treasury Department to assist homeowners and communities in states like Rhode Island, released the following statement on the award:

Building on their strong record of helping families who are facing the threat of foreclosure, U.S. Congressmen David N. Cicilline and Jim Langevin today announced that Rhode Island will receive almost $9.7 million in new federal funding from the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

In an effort to keep families in their homes and minimize foreclosures, U.S. Senator Jack Reed today announced an additional $9.68 million in foreclosure prevention funding will be coming to Rhode Island from the Hardest Hit Fund (HHF) program at the U.S. Treasury Department. Reed wrote to U.S. Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew in January urging the additional HHF resources for Rhode Island, citing the continued need for foreclosure prevention assistance in the state.

"As you prepare for the commute home, please keep in mind that our area continues to experience heavy snow and strong winds," Raimondo said. "We are also aware of power outages across the state, and are asking for patience as crews work quickly. Stay off the roads if you can to leave room for plows and allow public safety officials to do their jobs. Remember to check on your loved ones and neighbors."
