Housing Authorities Receive Reinvestment Act Funding
Warwick, R.I. - March 24, 2009 - (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) today announced local housing authorities will have access to over $18 million in funding due to the passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The funding will be directed to local agencies through US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Public Housing Capital Fund Program.
“This funding will essentially double HUD’s annual support of local housing authorities, allowing these agencies to make critical repairs and improvements as well as consider energy efficient options,” said Langevin. “As renovation contracts are signed, more people will be put back to work.”
According to HUD, the agency also will soon make an additional $1 billion available in capital funding grants that housing authorities may apply for on a competitive basis.
The following 10 housing authorities in the Second Congressional District will receive American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding:
Providence - $5.1 million
Cranston - $958,355
Warwick - $739,400
West Warwick - $356,513
Coventry - $293,534
Johnston - $267,027
Westerly - $188,905
South Kingstown - $153,943
East Greenwich - $51,502
